I am determined to prove what I have just claimed is true, I read a review of a Windows Millenium beta build, the review was done by Rose Vines in American Personal Computer magazine in Septemer or October 1999, at the start of the review Rose said that she had been shown a Alpha build of Windows Millenium that had a whole new startmenu, you could pin your favoritite apps plus it displayed your most commony used apps, she also said that it was VERY buggy and would cause windows to crash most of the time, another hint is same startmenu, I see that the/wayback machine at www.archive.org has several backups of www.betatester.tin.it, I have looked but I cant find the review, maybe you might have better luck than me, if so, PLEASE post your findings!
Ps... I know that Windows /whistler has many Windows Millemium files in it, thanks.

Hey Betaluva, after what I've recently discovered regarding the ACs in
whistler, my bet is that it wasn't an alpha build of WinME you saw it in,
but a build in the early 24xx to just before 2452, as it had a lot of it's
activex taken out of the webview, & new shell features implemented
by other means, then reverted back in by build 2452, with greater security policies
implemented, a feature I'm seeing in whistler from 2250, which also had the
new startmenu, though had to be implemented via registry keys not
part of whistler til 2257...
& as a sidenote, Neptune too had the webview separation from the shell,
similar to the early 24xx WinME builds, my guess is the activex exploitation
possibilities were well accepted as being a headache in the making back
then, hence why it was removed in XP...

The reason I say this is the new startmenu in XP had features that were also
used by the desktop StartPage in the Neptune ACs, the shell folder icon view
implementation had to be separated from the webview & implemented by
alternative means, hence why the icon size is so big on the StartPage in
Neptune, 32x32 icons with no accompanying text...

Seems the Activity Centers StartPage was the precursor to the new start menu in Whistler-XP

Just my thoughts on it after my latest discoveries...
